Awww Shucks!

Corn Palace here we come.  Went to Mitchell, South Dakota to see a "palace" made out of corn.  You go in and they show a 15 minute video explaining why a town would need a Corn Palace.  Turns out they made it to put Mitchell on the map and then they added to it further when the state was trying to decide where the capitol should be.  It would have been cool if they put the state capitol building next to the Corn Palace.  Today it's used as an exhibit hall, sports arena and whatever else they want folks to use it for:)

The interior of the building always stays the same and has the story of the friendship of the white man and the Native American. Each side shows a point of view.  One of the colonials and one of the native Americans.  I like the middle where the hands are clasped.  That should be the world's motto don't you think?

The outside changes every year and we were lucky enough to be there when they were taking down the old motto (sports) last year.  According to the video we watched they create a huge sketch and then staple it on the walls and then it's as simple as "Corn by Number".

I have to wonder how their birds can fly.  We caught a couple helping themselves to the walls at lunchtime:)
Yum Corn!
Mom and I met the Corn Mascot:)  He was so very corny:)

Even the outside lightposts were corn themed.

If you are ever out that way and you have a little time.. Tour took us a total of 1 hour. I think you should cornsider going:)
